Botticelli's "The Birth of Venus" is one of the most important portrayals of beauty and love since antiquity. "Venus de Milo" is another representation of Aphrodite that transcends time and expresses the brokenness of beauty with both of her arms removed. Even in this vulnerable and rare form – she remains "beautiful" and "whole." The duality of both representations balances the subjective nature of beauty – this balance between perfection and brokenness. Without this balance, understanding true beauty is flat and bland. In the modern world, beauty goes beyond aesthetics. Beauty endures pain, grief, heartache and illness and not even Venus herself – can escape or mask herself from these facets of life.

“Earth as being, personification of her.”
My latest piece, inspired by the immaculate power of Mother Nature. The fine line between her magnitude of lushness vs. the fiery depths of her destruction.
Woman herself.
Nature as a whole.

The “be still.” series explores concepts of self-discovery, awakening to the Higher Self, and obtaining inner-stillness through meditation and daily spiritual practices.
My personal, spiritual journey has influenced this shift towards stillness in my work, due to the influx of distraction in our society today.
Exploration of impasto knife techniques and a focus on small details while peeling away the layers beneath — represent the act of meditation in itself.

We create our own realities.
We keep ourselves bounded by limiting beliefs, past experiences, and current emotions.
The ice cube = our incubator.
What we believe surrounds us and therefore influences our environment.
The hot air balloon = the dream.
We are frozen still, based off of our thoughts.
We think we are stuck.
Frozen still,
But ice melts.

America is... choice. The way that I layer the canvases on top of one another mirrors the way that the United States government covers up realities for women in our country today. The growing control that the government is beginning to have over women’s bodies, sparks a fire within the roots of my work. As a young woman, the ability to choose to come out about my own sexuality a few years ago has helped me to empathize with a woman’s choice to choose a life for herself. Putting control on reproductive rights slashes a deep cut in gender equality and the power that a woman has over her own body. This wound-like, slicing cut is described through the peel-back layers of canvas and political symbolism. By removing her rights, she loses a part of herself, symbolized by the government in place of where her reproductive organs are.

Paintings inspired by an identity shift that I have experienced/am currently experiencing/will forever experience throughout my life. I am learning that we are ever-changing beings that adapt and grow every second. We must be gentle and kind to ourselves. It is mind-blowing how different we all are and the importance of accepting our internal truths. We must live lives that we cherish and follow our intuitive motives. This series was inspired by the thoughts swirling constantly and moving to a new place (here.) But most of all, I am inspired by the sea, by its ferocious, gentle, calm turbulence; for it reflects all of us, and allows us to experience the inner depths of ourselves.
Photo from February show at Art League of Ocean City, Maryland, Identity: Depths of Self.
Art inspired by other artists and their internal struggles. My ability to create visualizations of their lives through symbolism and empathy.
Swimming somewhere in the in-between. Below the waves and above the clouds...
I wanted to represent his mind and soul in a way that transcended his physical body. Portraying his life with metaphors and symbols; the way in which I interpret emotion & feeling. Rest In Peace Mac Miller.

Deep use of symbolism revolving around drug use and addiction. Juxtaposition of lightness and darkness; losing yourself through use and healing/growing in the light. We shed the masks of our facades for our internal truths.

Inktober 2019 Challenge
Ink on toned paper
Ring
the smoke rises; revealing her inner truth.
Mindless
a peculiar thing it must be;
to think with the mind & neglect the heart.
Bait
you were fresh bait.
Freeze
waiting
in this distorted reality.
watching the outside
from within.
Build
likes and comments,
building us up,
leaving us empty.
Husky
imagining your scent,
stinging my lungs as smoke would.
the sweet breath of you.
Enchanted
my thoughts grew more and more enchanted by you...
my mind seemingly expanded,
twisted, whirled,
and toppled into
and onto itself.
Frail
even when my bones grow weak and frail,
& my body fades back into the earth,
my heart still beams for you.
Swing
you make my mind swing
back and forth
between dimensions.
you inter-dimensional creature.
Pattern
it seemed that
even your clothing,
breathed the life of you.
Snow
the summer waters had frozen over.
unbeknownst to her,
snow caps jutting from her
shoulder blades…
she could withstand this cold.
Dragon
her mind,
exhaled imagination.
Ash
the smoke rose
as the ash fell,
& finally she rested.
Overgrown
she was a Venus in disguise.
a dramatic paradox:
her brokenness
made her ideal.
she was perfectly overgrown.
Legend
the ultimate legend for me:
uncovering your external facade,
& unlocking the structure
that makes you tick.
Wild
she’s a wild one.
Ornament
even the strongest of ships,
sink in small capacities.
Misfit
in a man’s world,
she stood alone.
emblazoned in red,
woman.
Sling
thanks for playing.
Tread
these things that i carry,
some heavier than i’d imagined.
treasure [chest]
her true treasure
was within.

Ghost
my darling,
you weren’t in love with me;
you fell for my ghosts.
Ancient
she had history.
Dizzy
it’s you and always has been you —
making my mind go dizzy.
Tasty
she tasted as the galaxy does,
the sun, moon, and stars
multiplied into one.
Dark
her true light
only seen in the dark.
Coat
cloaked in gold,
you were a walking heaven to me.
Ride
& let her ride…
freely and blissfully unaware,
as the sun begins to turn the sky
a hazy, golden hue.
she’s fully consumed in it all.
Injured
unintentionally [yet maybe quite purposefully],
you left me hurting.
Caught
caught in the thick of it,
lavishly glued there,
stuck in the web of you.
Ripe
ending it as it all began,
with the simple offering of an apple.
